Many of our readers in California likely see the frequent news reports about celebrity relationships gone bad, many of which end in divorce. As commonplace as divorce is in our society, celebrity divorces just go to show that a divorce could be a possibility that could happen to anyone. As a result, prenuptial agreements are oftentimes of paramount importance.
Two well-known celebrities, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton, seem to have realized the potential benefits of prenuptial agreements before their recent marriage. Before they got married recently on July 3, reports indicate that the couple signed “ironclad” prenuptial agreements. It is noted that both of the celebrities went through prior marriages that ended in divorce, so, even though no one gets married with the expectation that the marriage will end in divorce, Stefani and Shelton apparently saw the sense in being prepared.
Celebrities and ultra-wealthy individuals aren’t the only ones who can benefit from having a prenuptial agreement drafted and executed prior to marriage. Many California residents, under many different circumstances, may benefit from negotiating this type of agreement.
Clear expectations with prenups
One of the biggest benefits of a prenuptial agreement is that each party has clear expectations of what would happen if a divorce occurs – the questions are answered before the issues even come up in a divorce. However, it is important to understand that there are some areas that cannot be addressed in prenuptial agreements. At our law firm, we help California residents navigate the issue of prenuptial agreements. For more information, please visit the prenuptial agreement overview section of our law firm’s website.
