Attempting to lessen the emotional toll of a divorce

On Behalf of Jill White Law and Mediation PC | Feb 15, 2021 | Collaborative Divorce, Divorce Mediation

It is a given that in most divorce cases the soon-to-be ex-couple will likely have plenty of emotions boiling to the surface at various times during the legal process. After all, a divorce is the end of a significant and extremely personal part of most peoples’ lives: marriage. Attempting to lessen the emotional toll of a divorce may be a laudable goal for many California residents.

Less conflict through collaboration

Although it may seem contradictory, the reality is that many couples who are going through a divorce are able to tamp down the emotions that can arise by taking the legal case through the “collaborative divorce” process. In essence, the collaborative divorce process can be best described as a team effort to resolve the legal issues in the case without the need for constant courtroom litigation.

Just like in sports, the makeup of the members of the team is crucial to success. In most cases, the collaborative team consists of the same people who would likely be present in court: the soon-to-be ex-spouses and their attorneys. However, other team members may be needed as well, depending on the unique circumstances of any given divorce case. Financial professionals, for example, may be part of the collaborative team, or perhaps even mental health professionals, in some cases.

At our law firm, we know that the collaborative divorce process has helped many couples in California with their efforts to get through the emotional turmoil that can be present in divorce cases. We work with our clients to attempt to find the best solutions in their cases. For more information, please visit the divorce overview section of our law firm’s website.
